Diesel engines and generators are the most commonly used way of power generation onboard yachts today. They are a relatively efficient way to produce a lot of power. With this type of power generation comes noise, vibration, soot and Nitrogen Oxides (NOx).
Innovations in hybrid technology allow yachts to optimise their energy management by switching between generators, batteries or let them work together to decide upon optimal power setpoints automatically. This hybrid mode reduces engine maintenance costs up to 50% by ensuring an optimal load for the diesel generators, avoiding unnecessary start/stops and decreasing their running hours.
The hybrid power plant also provides reliable shore supply made possible by the batteries being hot stand and finally the smart automation achieves reduction of fuel consumption up to 11%.
With every newbuild yacht, the installation of a hybrid system is considered, and an increased number of systems are being installed.
RH Marine has three pre-engineered packages that can be installed onboard existing yachts to enjoy the benefits of a hybrid yacht. The Essentials, Basic and Extended packages can be installed during a refit.
