Discover the new low emission Micro turbine for marine application during METSTRADE Show 2018
12 November 2018
RH Marine, Feadship, Seven Turbine Power and Boskalis have joined forces in a strong partnership to introduce a revolutionary micro turbine to the maritime industry. The Micro turbine has extreme low emissions, operates quietly without vibrations and requires very little maintenance. The compact, clean and comfortable solution consists of a DC65-D Marine turbine generator, a 65kW turbine-generator set that can run on a variety of fuels such as marine gas oil and delivers direct current to the grid, based on a Capstone C65 micro turbine. In combination with waste heat recovery, the efficiency potential matches, and in many cases surpasses, that of any conventional diesel generator. Thanks to its compact design, stacking these units in parallel in a rack type configuration to deliver sufficient power in a redundant way, is among the many possibilities.
“A perfect fit for the next generation of energy provision on superyachts”
The micro turbine will be displayed during the METSTRADE Show 2018 at stand 11.511 of RH Marine. The Dutch maritime system integrator of electrical and automation systems, will showcase it as part of their pre-composed hybrid packages that provide battery powered hybrid solutions for superyachts and other vessels. Michiel Post, Technical Product Manager at RH Marine: “The DC power output of the micro turbine is perfectly suited to integrate in our hybrid-battery based solution. It is highly efficient thanks to the lack of an AC to DC conversion step and the waste heat recovery functionality. Combined with the battery powered hybrid solutions of RH Marine, the Capstone Micro turbine is a perfect fit for the next generation of energy provision on superyachts.”
It is a long wish come true, says Sven Fransen, director and owner of Seven Turbine Power BV, to offer the technology of Capstone Micro turbines to the maritime industry. The low emissions, quiet operation and very low maintenance of the Capstone technology is a perfect match for maritime branch. With the upcoming IMO emission regulations for 2020 the timing of the introduction is spot on. The provided Approval in Principle by Lloyds Register declares our solution is compliant with the rules and suitable candidate for a full type approval and clears the way for naval architects and shipyards to implement the Capstone Micro turbine technology.
Partnership throughout the value chain
What makes this new micro turbine special is the fact that this new technology is introduced by a partnership that connects the value chain. From manufacturer, to electrical integrator, yard and ship owner, every partner has been involved from the early beginning. This results in a solution that fulfills the needs of the current and future maritime market.
